Elections completed peacefully, except stray incidents: CEC

Chief election commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Wednesday said the polls to 234 municipalities were completed peacefully, except some stray incidents.
‘At some polling centres and outside some other centres few incidents of violence were reported while the commission suspended elections at 50 centres, in cluding all 12 of Madhabdi municipality,’ CEC said at post poll press conference at the commission’s media centre.
He said the commission also suspended some police officers as they were involved in irregularities.
‘On the polling day, the commission took actions following specific complaints received from political parties and the media,’ he said.
He said conducting a totally peaceful election was tough if the political parties would not change their violent culture.
‘Satisfaction or dissatisfaction is a relative matter. People will judge if we are successful or unsuccessful. Holding elections is commission’s job; we are doing our job…’ he said.
Among others, election commissioners Abu Hafiz and Md Shah Nawaz and its secretary M Sirajul Islam were present at the news briefing.
