PRIMARY, IBTEDAYI, JSC, JDC RESULTS : Schools perform better than madrassahs
Pass rate and number of highest grade point average achievers in primary and junior secondary exams show positive growth while in madrassah both the indicators show negative growth compared with the previous year.
The results announced on Thursday show that this year pass rate and number of students scoring the highest Grade Point Average 5 in Junior School Certificate and Primary Education Completion Examination for general stream students increased but pass rate and number of student obtaining GPA 5 in Junior Dakhil Certificate and Ibtedayi Education Completion exams for madrassah students fell from the previous year.
The pass rate in JSC under eight general education boards stood 92.31 per cent, up by 2.46 per cent on 89.85 in 2014. Pass rate in JDC under madrassah education board stood at 92.46 per cent, down by 1.04 per cent from 93.50 per cent in 2014.
Pass rate in primary schools increased by 0.60 per cent to 98.52 per cent this year from previous year’s 97.92 per cent while pass rate in madrassah fell by 0.85 per cent to 95.13 this year from last year’s 95.98 per cent.
About 28.39 lakh students took primary, 2.64 lakh ibtedayi after class V and 19.29 lakh students took JSC, 3.43
lakh students took JDC examinations after class VIII, all the exams held in November.
This year, the number of GPA 5 scorers in primary schools increased to 2,75,980 from 2,24,411 in 2014 on the other hand number of GPA 5 scorer in madrassah decreased to 5,473 from 6,541 in 2014.
In the current year, the number of GPA 5 scorers in JSC increased to 1,87,502 from last year’s 1,36,945 while the number of GPA 5 holder in JDC declined sharply to 8,761 from last year’s 19,290.
Chairmen of two education boards told New Age that students were now well used to creative questions in mathematics and better performance in English contributed to increasing the pass rate in JDC exam.
Madrassah board officials blamed lack of facilities including qualified teachers and bad performance in subjects like ICT, physical education and carrier education for the decreased number of GPA 5.
Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid said they would look into the reasons behind the
dropping pass rate and number of GPA 5 in madrassahs.
Nahid and primary and mass education minister Mostafizur Rahman at separate press conferences in the afternoon shared the details of results.
In the morning, Nahid and Mostafizur presented copies of the result documents to prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Hasina, highlighting the success of introduction of primary, JSC and JDC examinations, said these examinations were building up consciousness and self confidence among the children and thereby helping them remove fear in the SSC examinations.
‘These examinations have also created opportunities for flourishing talents of the children,’ she added.
She also directed the authorities concerned to take necessary measures for projecting the history of the War of Liberation in the academic books of the English medium school books.
The performance of the students of Rajshahi board was better in JSC exams among boards, with a pass rate of 97.57, while students of Chittagong performed badly among other boards with pass rate of 85.48.
No student from 43 schools and madrassahs could pass the exams. But all the students of 8,583 other schools and madrassah passed the junior secondary examinations.
In primary exam, Rajshahi division performed better in both examinations, with 99 per cent success rate for the schools and 97.88 per cent for the madarssahs. Sylhet division performed the worst with 96.79 per cent pass in schools and 90 per cent pass in madrassahs.
No student from 148 primary schools and madrassahs could pass the exams. But all the students of 83,336 primary schools and 7,791 madrassahs passed the primary examinations.
In terms of pass percentage and GPA 5 achievers girls performed better than boys in primary and JSC and JDC exams, while boys performed better than girls in Ibtedayi exams.
Monipur High School, National Ideal School and College, Ideal School and College, Milestone Preparatory School and Viqarunnesa Noon School
and College, all in Dhaka secured the top five positions of national top 20 performing schools in primary exam.
Darusjannat Siddiqiya Kamil Madrassah in Dhaka, Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrassah in Gazipur, Tanjimul Ummah Cadet Madrassah in Dhaka, Mirwarishpur Senior Madrassah in Noakhali and Birinchi Sufia
Nuria Senior Madrassha in Feni secured the top five positions amongst the madrassahs.
