Mahmudur’s bail, remand prayers rejected

A Dhaka court on Monday asked police to interrogate daily Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman at jail gate in five working days, rejecting his remand and bail prayers, in a bomb attack case.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Maruf Hossain directed police after hearing in the case.
Earlier, Mahmudur Rahman’s lawyer Joynal Abedin Mejbah pleaded for his bail, urging the court to reject the remand prayer. Rahman was produced before the court during the hearing.
In a petition on February 15, police had prayed for seven days remand as Mahmudur Rahman secured bail from all
the cases from the High Court.
In that remand prayer, assistant sub-inspector Harun-ar-Rashid of Shahbagh police said Mahmudur Rahman was shown arrested in the bomb attack case and that police needed to quiz him to investigate into the case. The metropolitan magistrate, Golam Nabi, had set February 22 for hearing in the remand plea.
According to the case papers, Kamal Hossain, a DU student had filed a case in January 2013 under the Explosives Act against 44 identified and 50 to 60 unidentified people.
Kamal said he was injured after some miscreants had hurled a crude bomb at him on the road opposite of an academic building on the university campus.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party, however, has sought the Chief Justice’s intervention to have daily Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman released from jail.
