SC asks Janakantha editor to surrender to lower court
The Appellate Division on Monday directed the editor of Daily Janakantha, Mohammad Atiqullah Khan Masud, to surrender before the lower court in a week in connection with his conviction for seven years’ imprisonment on charge of constructing a high-rise building doctoring RAJUK-approved design.
An Appellate Division bench headed by the chief justice SK Sinha issued the directive allowing the Anti-Corruption Commission to file an appeal against Atiqullah’s acquittal of the charge by the High Court in 2010.
In 2008, a special judges court in Dhaka had sentenced Atiqullah Khan Masud, the chairman of Globe Janakantha Shilpa Paribar, and a RAJUK officer to seven-year in jail in the case filed against them by the commission in 2007.
