Govt urged to announce 9th wage board for journalists

Sangbadik Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad leaders at a rally in the capital on Monday called on the government to announce the 9th wage board with a view to increasing the wages of journalists and workers working in the media houses.
SSKOP organised the rally on National Press Club premises, where former Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists faction president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul made this call to constitute the 9th wage board immediately.
The government has already implemented the pay scale and the salaries for the government employees, so it was essential to announce new wage board for the media houses, Manjurul said while addressing the rally.
BFUJ faction general secretary Omar Faroque demanded announcement of the 9th wage board before upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
He announced programmes to visit the media houses where the journalists and the workers were ‘harassed’ by the owners.
He demanded immediate release of detained media house owners Mizanur Rahman and Rafiqul Amin.
Chaired by president of Press Workers Federation Alamgir Hossain Khan, former secretary general of BFUJ faction Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, DUJ faction president Shaban Mahmud, general secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury, Karmachari Union president Matiur Rahman Talukder, BFUJ leader Madhusudan Mandol and others spoke at the rally.
