PM calls on UK govt for actions against Tarique

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Saturday urged the British government to take actions against those who had taken shelter there and were hatching conspiracy against Bangladesh.
‘A black sheep has been staying in London. I do not understand why the British government should provide him the shelter,’ she said at an iftar party organised by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and the Dhaka Union of Journalists at the Jatiya Press Club.
In an oblique reference to Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman, the prime minister said that the British government should take action against him alleging that he was responsible for killing people in Bangladesh and her sister’s daughter Tulip Siddiq, now a British lawmaker, was also being threatened there.
Hasina said that the threat to Tulip reminded her of the statement of BNP chairperson, also former prime minister and the mother of Tarique, that she wanted Hasina-free Bangladesh. ‘This means that they want to kill me,’ she added.
The prime minister alleged that the ‘militant’ caught in Madaripur for hacking a college teacher was a Shibir activist.
‘After the Madaripur incident, there should not be any doubt that BNP and Jamaat are involved in all secret killings in the recent time,’ she added.
Hasina called on the media to play a responsible role towards the society as they enjoyed freedom to criticise the government.
Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, prime minister’s media adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, acting BFUJ president Zafar Wajed, secretary general Omar Faruque, Jatiya Press Club president Shafiqur Rahman, DUJ president Saban Mahmud and general secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury spoke on the occasion.
Responding to the demand of journalists for announcing the 9th wage board, Hasina asked the information minister to initiate a move for increase in the wages of journalists and workers in the newspaper industry.
