VESTED PROPERTY: Rights bodies oppose land ministry move
Leaders of ten rights organisations on Tuesday strongly protested a land ministry move for fresh inclusion of land in the list of vested property and demanded stopping the move immediately.
They threatened to go for tougher movement across the country if any land was freshly included in the list of the vested property.
Addressing a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity, they also said that a quarter inside the government had taken the move for fresh inclusion of land in the vested property list with an ill motive to grab land and make money.
They said that the quarter was also hatching a conspiracy to make the Vested Property Return Act 2001 dysfunctional by taking such move.
The land ministry on March 4 issued a letter to deputy commissioners of 50 districts asking for information within seven working days about how much vested properties were excluded from the list and how much were wrongly included in the list in their respective districts.
Human rights activist Sultana Kamal, also a former adviser of the caretaker government, said that the government had enacted the vested property return act and brought a number of amendments but there was little implementation of the act till date.
She demanded withdrawal of the land ministry letter to the DCs and said the move to prepare another list of vested property is a conspiracy to foil the prime minister’s sincerity towards implementation of the act.
Sultana Kamal said that it was embarrassing for them to raise the voice again and again for the implementation of the same act.
Executive director of Association for Land Reform and Development Shamsul Huda read out a written statement while Arpita Sampatti Ain Protirodh Andolan president Kamal Lohani, its general secretary Subrata Chowdhury, Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad general secretary Rana Dasgupta and Sammilita Samajik Andolan general secretary Tobarak Hossain, among others, were present at the press conference.
