DNCC unveils budget of Tk 2,083.35 crore

Dhaka North City Corporation on Sunday announces its Tk 2083.35 crore budget for the fiscal year 2016-17.
The budget is more than double the size of the revised budget of the previous fiscal year, which was Tk 1010.45 crore, while the proposed budget for FY 2015-16 was Tk 1601.95 crore.
Placing the budget at a city hotel, the Dhaka city mayor, Annisul Huq, said that they could spend 63 per cent of the previous budget and would try to spend 80-82 per cent of the proposed budget.
He said the DNCC would not hike holding tax, but the holding tax would be reassessed according to the latest rate fixed in 2008.
‘Though we can increase five per cent tax every year according to the law but this year we will not raise the tax,’ he said.
Of the budget, Tk 948.25 crore is expected to come from revenue income, Tk 70 crore from government allotment and Tk 811.51 crore from government and foreign-funded projects.
DNCC has allocated Tk 1,559.31 crore for spending in development sector while it would spend Tk 354.20 crore in the non-development sector.
In the development sector, Tk 315 crore was allocated for development and maintenance of roads, footpaths and surface drains, Tk 14 crore for entertainment facilities development, Tk 39.20 crore for environmental development that includes tree plantation, setting up public toilet, slum development, beautification and climate change and disaster management.
In the non-development expenditure, the DNCC allocated Tk 354.20 crore, from which Tk 135 crore would be spent for salary of employees.
Tk 46.90 crore was allocated for waste management and Tk 23.25 crore for mosquito control.
The city corporation allocated Tk 14.55 crore for social welfare sector while the mayor took Tk 10 crore for his own fund.
The councilors and officials were present at the function.
