Chhatra Dal leader injured in police firing

Police on Thursday shot a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader at Mogbazar area in the city. The victim is identified as Robiul Islam Nayan, 26, a joint convener of Chhatra Dal Mohammadpur unit. Police said Nayan is a wanted accused of several cases of arson attack and vandalism filed during the BNP sponsored blockade.

BASIC BANK SCAM : Bacchu bought 100 fishing boats during chairmanship

Controversial former BASIC Bank chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bacchu purchased as many as 100 fishing boats starting in 2009 when he was appointed chairman of the state-owned bank. The Anti-Corruption Commission last month filed 54 cases against some 80 bankers and 54 business entities but left Hye out after probing embezzlement of Tk 3,500 crore from the BASIC Bank.
